My name is Dan McPartlan. I’m the owner and founder of The Comforted Kitty. I understand how nerve-racking it can feel to leave your cat in someone else’s care—that’s exactly why I started this company.
It all begins with our network of professional, hand-picked sitters who are not only cat lovers themselves but also experienced, background-checked, and insured. We match you with the right sitter for your cat’s specific needs and arrange a free meet-and-greet session before your departure. You’ll also have access to our convenient app, where you can keep tabs on your kitty and receive daily photo and video updates.

Dan first discovered his love of cats while helping his grandmother care for the felines she fostered for the El Dorado Humane Society. Far from a casual cat caretaker, Dan’s grandmother would provide love and companionship to as many as 30 cats at a time.
Because his grandmother lived next door, Dan had the chance to spend hours with these cats, learning about the finer points of feline care and the individual idiosyncrasies of each. He loved them all, but two — the gregarious Raisin and slightly overweight Fluffy — held especially important places in his heart.
Dan carried this love of cats into adulthood, as he spent countless hours advocating for the welfare of cats and volunteered with municipal animal shelters and private rescue organizations for more than 15 years. In fact, he adopted his own cat, Pixie, from the Berkeley Municipal Animal Shelter.
He eventually started the Comforted Kitty after learning about cat sitting through a fellow volunteer and friend who had her own cat sitting business. Beginning in the fall of 2014, and with just a bicycle and backpack, he set off helping clients throughout Berkeley and Oakland with cat sitting care, building a reputation of reliability, responsibility, and responsiveness.
While Dan has dreams of opening the world’s first cat-themed casino and using the proceeds to find shelter cats forever homes, he’s happy to spend his days managing The Comforted Kitty and ensuring that the cats in our care get the love, attention, and human contact they need while their owners are away.
When he’s not caring for cats or keeping the trains running on time for The Comforted Kitty, Dan can likely be found exercising, taking photographs, traveling, or in a tattoo chair, getting more cat-themed ink.
